BlogPro bono partner announced for the Broome professional Intensive

EWB Australia is delighted to welcome Landscape Architecture and Urban Design practice, UDLA Studio, as our pro bono partner for the Yawuru Youth Accommodation and Training Complex project, and its Principal Director, Greg Grabasch, as Guest Design Facilitator for the Broome Intensive (3-11 August 2019).

UDLA is a multi-award winning studio specialising in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, & Community Development that adopts inclusive processes that involves all of the people it seeks to engage in equal measure.  The studio is led by the belief that Landscape Architecture is a progression through history, environment, population and practice, encompassing commercial, social, behavioural and aesthetic goals. Their approach hinges on the understanding that people and place need to be connected and that the health of a community has an intrinsic relationship with how empowered participants are engaged with their environment, or have a say in changing their existing condition into a preferred one.

UDLA has extensive experience in envisioning spatial outcomes with local communities in WA and Overseas, in particular indigenous community organisations and traditional owners in participatory design and development visioning processes. UDLA’s ‘people first’ approach makes them unique amongst design studios in WA and a leader in contemporary design thinking.

UDLA Principal Director, Greg Grabasch will join the Broome Intensive as part of the Design Facilitation team sharing his expertise in participatory design approaches and co-design with diverse stakeholders.

Broome Intensive participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from Greg about critical challenges and emerging perspectives on the role and practice of built environment professionals in understanding, appreciating and engaging Australia’s ecological and cultural complexity in planning and design.
